Music Therapy The Music Therapist provides emotional support and quality of life for patients and families through therapeutic music techniques which include:
Live Music vocal, guitar Lyric Analysis Songwriting/Improvisation Progressive relaxation Guided Imagery Music Appreciation Reflective listening
Music Therapy can help to meet family needs in the following areas:
- Emotional Status/Coping: Need for defining or articulating feelings and thoughts, including end-of-life and bereavement issues.
- Spiritual Support: Music can support spiritual needs in a way that will honor and strengthen your own belief system
- Enjoyment of Music: Quality of life issues, reminisce about life through music or just listen to enjoy.
- Communication Challenges: Music can uniquely respond to challenges due to physical or intellectual impairment.
- Dementia: A way of providing structure, stimulating and Quality of life is through music. Music is proven to last in everyones memory.
- Anxiety: Music can be a direct intervention to remediate issues and/or symptoms. Music can be used to calm anxious patients and families.
- Pain Control: Use of music for comfort measures, which could support medical interventions.
- Sensory Stimulation/Lack of Interactions: For patients that experience infrequent contact due to living situations or psychological issues.
